Emma Letts, a bride-to-be from Leicestershire in the U.K., is set to marry her fiancГ©, Richard, this August, but sadly one special person won't be there for the ceremony. Letts's mother was diagnosed with cancer just a month after the couple got engaged in 2016 and passed away in 2017.
"It's been so hard planning a wedding without having her with me, and I have had lots of tears," Letts told the BBC. But only recently did she discover that her mom had found a way to be involved after all-by way of her daughter's wedding shoes. The bride placed an order for customized shoes from a British online called Lace and Love, but soon after that her mother reached out to the owner.
"It was her mum who told me she had cancer and wouldn't be there for Emma's wedding day. She told me on the first message she sent me," owner Amanda Weise explained. "Her mum actually emailed me and said she wanted to pay for the shoes. I said, 'Well she's already paid half'. She said, 'Can I pay for it all and then you refund her the money when she gets the shoes?' I was aware that she was terminally ill at the time. I think Emma was kind of hoping she would see the wedding. From the message that she wrote, I think she did intend for it to be after she was gone."
Letts was completely surprised when the shoes arrived, paid for and with a message from her mother on the soles. (You can see them here.) It read: "Wanted you to have a gift from me on your wedding day," the message read. "Your wedding shoes are my gift to you. Hope you have a magical day. Lots and lots of love and big hugs, Mum xxxx."
"I pulled out the one shoe and I saw part of the message and I couldn't think who it would be," Letts told the BBC, soon realizing what had happened. "I started to cry… I was just absolutely in bits. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk."
Now, when she walks down the aisle, she'll have her mom with her in each step.
