Henry Golding Left His Honeymoon Early to Audition for Crazy Rich Asians

It's safe to assume Crazy Rich Asians has been on your radar recently, and for good reason. Whether you're a fan of the original book series or are dying to see the ultimate rom-com, extravagant wedding and all, the film made major Hollywood waves as one of the first to feature a majority Asian cast in 25 years. Among the ranks is newcomer and 31-year-old heartthrob Henry Golding, who plays one of the protagonists, Nick Young. We won't get into any plot spoilers (you'll have to see/read for yourselves), but we will delve into Golding's rise to stardom, which involved dipping out early on his honeymoon.

Golding got real about his transition from TV-show host to the big screen on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night, which he owes largely to a woman in the accounting department named Lisa Kim (S/O to Lisa). Despite not having any acting experience prior to the major motion picture (which hit theaters yesterday), Golding says the notorious Lisa Kim passed his name onto the Crazy Rich Asians director, John M. Chu, who tracked him down for the role.

Equally as noteworthy, part of Golding's fame-inducing audition happened to fall on his honeymoon. He says was hesitant to even try out for the Crazy Rich Asians role in the first place, since he didn't think the studio would "gamble on a newbie." But, meeting Chu sealed the deal, post-wedding getaway conflict and all.

"I went through the whole process of auditioning, chemistry read, I got pulled off my honeymoon to go and finish off this screen test," he says. "Wife wasn't happy-still making up for it. I think she loves me." Despite dipping out on his honeymoon and annoying his wife, everything seems to have worked out in his favor thus far.

Another little known fact about the British-Malaysian budding actor? He was deemed the "Sexual Healer" in high school (and no, it's not what you think… ).

"It was due to the fact I used to go around singing 'Sexual Healing' by Marvin Gaye," Golding said after much pestering from Fallon. "That was my song!"

Golding concluded the interview by giving a rundown of the film, which he ultimately says is about love (we're suckers for that around here). Catch the flick soon to see Golding in action and further validate his choice to leave his honeymoon early.
